Southern Wine Trail
The Southern Wine Trail in Tasmania takes you through stunning landscapes, where vineyards stretch along riverbanks, mountain slopes, and coastal inlets. From the Huon Valley and Derwent Valley, known for their fresh and elegant wines, to the Coal River Valley near the historic town of Richmond, each stop offers a unique combination of flavors and scenery. Here, wineries open their doors for memorable tastings, often accompanied by local products, from artisanal cheeses to smoked salmon. It’s a route that blends award-winning wines with the wild and authentic beauty of southern Tasmania, making it a must-do experience for anyone seeking the best of wine tourism in Tasmania.

In southern Tasmania, we only had the chance to visit two vineyards:
- Derwent Estate Vineyard – We participated in a wine tasting with an incredible view over the Derwent River. The space is charming, cozy, and perfect for tastings, with cheese platters and a restaurant for those who wish to extend the experience with a full meal.
- Moorilla Winery – Located by the river, next to MONA, this winery offers much more than wine at its cellar door. With gastronomy, live music, and a relaxed outdoor atmosphere, it’s perfect for a good time. We tried the Riesling, and it was excellent.
East Coast Wine Trail
The East Coast Wine Trail in Tasmania is a journey that combines breathtaking landscapes, authentic flavors, and unique experiences. Over almost 200 km, the vineyards stretch from rocky hilltops to almost the ocean, creating the perfect setting for wine tastings. This region, famous for its white sandy beaches, national parks, and wildlife, is also a gastronomic paradise, with fresh seafood, award-winning cheeses, and a wide variety of wines. From well-known wineries to small hidden producers, each stop along the Great Eastern Drive becomes a celebration of the flavors and natural beauty of the east coast, making it an excellent choice for those seeking to experience wine tourism in Tasmania.

We visited some amazing properties in this region, and here are our highlights:
- Milton Vineyard – When we were there, wine tastings were free. If you want something extra special, for just 10 AUD, you can try their reserve wines, which are a must-try.
- Craigie Knowe Vineyard – In addition to wine tastings, this vineyard has a restaurant that is perfect for a leisurely lunch among the vines.
- Devil’s Corner – Although it is more touristy, it’s worth the visit for the stunning view from the lookout. Here you can enjoy a pizzeria, a restaurant, and of course, a tasting room to explore the local wines.
Tamar Wine Trail
The Tamar Wine Trail is a must-experience for wine and food lovers, located in northern Tasmania, starting from Launceston. This is the oldest and largest wine region on the island, famous for its world-class sparkling wines and the variety of wineries along the kanamaluka / Tamar River. Along the route, which stretches from the vineyards in Evandale to Beaconsfield and the rolling hills of Pipers Brook, you’ll find a perfect mix of wine tastings, fresh farm products, and breathtaking landscapes.
Beyond the wine, there’s plenty to explore: dramatic gorges, bike trails, saunas, lakes, and even historic sites. Between adventures and toasts with a good local Pinot Noir, northern Tasmania reveals itself as a paradise for the senses, especially for those who appreciate wine tourism in Tasmania, with a unique offering of wines and stunning landscapes.
The Tamar Wine Trail is conveniently accessible from Launceston, but you can also stay right within the Tamar Valley in accommodations with unique views over the Tamar River.
We visited some amazing properties in this region, and here are our highlights:
- Velo Wines – Wine tastings where the fee can be deducted from the purchase of a bottle (one per person).
- Tamar Ridge Cellar Door – Offers several tasting options and an irresistible cheese platter.
- Stoney Rise Wine Company – A modern building with a view of the valley; stands out for its 4-wine tasting and cheese toast with onion jam.
- Marion’s Vineyard – With the best view of the river, this vineyard invites relaxation. Here you can taste 4 wines while soaking in the rustic charm of the space, filled with antiques and abandoned farm machinery. Although we lacked more information about the wines, the atmosphere makes the visit worthwhile.
- Moores Hill Estate – More than excellent wines, this spot stands out for its irresistible platters. The atmosphere is cozy, with a stunning view of the vineyards, making it perfect for a peaceful end to the day.
- Holm Oak Vineyards – In the heart of the vineyards, this charming spot, with a wooden building, won us over with the friendliness of the team and the attention to detail in every wine. Besides the tasting, we were also treated to a sparkling wine and a fortified Muscat wine – little touches that make the experience even more special!
North west wine trail
The North West Wine Trail combines exceptional wines, fresh produce, and breathtaking landscapes along the northwest coast of Tasmania, through the Bass Strait. In this region, vineyards, cellar doors, and local produce stalls are surrounded by fertile soils, glacial rivers, and charming coastal villages. Here, you can taste everything from berries and vegetables to truffles and award-winning cheeses, all paired with local wines and the warm hospitality of the producers.
Besides the flavors, the northwest of Tasmania offers unique adventures: wild coastlines, ancient forests, tranquil rivers, and the majestic takayna / Tarkine forests, where the air is recognized as the purest on the planet. Hike through cliffs, explore mysterious caves, or simply enjoy the calm of the untouched landscapes. This route is an invitation to savor Tasmania in all its authenticity, making it a perfect experience for wine tourism enthusiasts in Tasmania who seek to combine exceptional wines with the region’s natural beauty.
