Sukhumvit was the first neighborhood we stayed in back in 2019, and on this new trip to Thailand, we decided it made perfect sense to spend a few days there again. It’s a vibrant neighborhood full of life, luxury, and amazing cuisine, where massive shopping malls blend seamlessly with traditional commerce and rapidly growing areas. Although Sukhumvit is a street stretching over several kilometers, when we talk about this neighborhood, we’re usually referring to the area between the BTS Thong Lor and Asok stations. One of its biggest advantages is the convenience of the BTS, the skytrain line that runs through Sukhumvit and easily connects you to other parts of Bangkok.

What to Do in Sukhumvit

Sukhumvit is one of Bangkok’s most vibrant and largest neighborhoods. In reality, it’s not just one area but a collection of neighborhoods along the expansive Sukhumvit Road, each with its own personality and charm. When we returned to Bangkok, our initial plan wasn’t to explore much here. We simply wanted to rest and enjoy our accommodation before heading to Manila.

But, as always, Bangkok didn’t let us stay still for long. Despite seeking a slower pace, Sukhumvit’s infectious energy encouraged us to explore some of its best attractions. If you’re wondering what to do in Sukhumvit, get ready, because this neighborhood offers much more than meets the eye!

• Emporium and EmSphere: Two iconic shopping malls. Emporium focuses more on luxury, while EmSphere has a lively vibe, especially at night. The food court on the lower floors is excellent for a quick meal, but the highlight is the outdoor area on the upper levels, filled with bars and restaurants.
• Terminal 21: A creative shopping mall where each floor represents a different city. From London to Tokyo, every detail, from the decor to the signs, makes you feel like you’re traveling. Great for shopping, photos, and even trying food from various parts of the world.
• K Village: A relaxed space with shops, restaurants, and a perfect atmosphere for a laid-back afternoon.
• The Commons: More than just a shopping mall, this is a community hub. With a regular schedule of events, it’s perfect for working, socializing, or simply enjoying a drink on the terrace. You’ll see plenty of digital nomads here.

Relaxing in Sukhumvit

• Massages at The Herb Association: If you’re looking for an upscale experience, this is the place. It includes tea, a shower option before and after, and a variety of treatments. Perfect for a relaxing moment.
• Benchasiri Park: A small green oasis amidst Sukhumvit’s towering buildings. Ideal for a jog, a walk, or just to unwind.

Where to Eat in Sukhumvit

• Food court at EmSphere: You’ll find everything here, from international chef-led restaurants like Gordon Ramsay to authentic local options.
• Hidden restaurants: Explore the side streets to discover true gems of Thai and international cuisine.
• Street food: Plenty of food stalls along Sukhumvit are perfect for trying local dishes like pad thai or grilled chicken skewers.
