Philippines Itinerary: 3 Weeks of Beaches, Nature, and Culture

We visited the Philippines as part of our second trip around the world in 2025, right after exploring Thailand and before heading to Australia. Over the course of 3 weeks, we planned our Philippines itinerary based on the best weather forecasts and ease of travel. That’s why most of the adventure was focused on Palawan, a true paradise.

The Philippines is globally renowned for its white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, hidden lagoons, and breathtaking sunsets. But trust us, there’s so much more to discover: charming fishing villages, vibrant cultures, and hospitality that makes you feel at home.

If you’re looking for inspiration to create your own Philippines itinerary, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll help you plan an unforgettable trip!

Best Time to Travel to the Philippines

The best time to travel to the Philippines is generally during the dry season, from November to May, when the weather is more stable and perfect for exploring paradise beaches like those in El Nido or Coron. However, our Philippines itinerary was influenced by the countries we visited before and after – Thailand and Australia – which led us to travel at the end of December and the beginning of January.

Although January isn’t the best time to visit all areas of the Philippines, we focused on places with the best weather during this period. That’s why we chose to explore mainly Palawan, where we enjoyed sunny days, crystal-clear waters, and breathtaking landscapes. After all, traveling is also about adapting and finding beauty in the unexpected!

    Our Philippines Itinerary

We planned a 3-week itinerary in the Philippines, but it’s actually very flexible. If you have less time, you can easily shorten it to 2 weeks. End in Manila or add a stop in Cebu, depending on how you prefer to explore this incredible country.

    Philippines Itinerary

The magic of the Philippines is that there’s always something for everyone—whether it’s relaxing on paradise beaches, diving into crystal-clear waters, or adventuring through tropical landscapes. So, how do you imagine your trip here?

The transportation we used in our Philippines itinerary included:

Week 1: Starting in Manila and Palawan

Days 1 to 3: Exploring Manila

Manila isn’t like other Southeast Asian cities, where it’s easy to move between different neighborhoods of interest. That’s why we decided to stay in Poblacion, in the Makati area, which is not only safe but also offers a great variety of restaurants and accommodations with excellent value for money. During the three days we spent in the city, we dedicated one day to exploring Makati, another to the modern BGC, and another to Intramuros, the historical heart of the capital. We always used Grab to get around between neighborhoods and explored various sites on foot.

Before flying to Puerto Princesa, we also reserved an extra day in Manila for the end of our Philippines itinerary, when we returned from Coron. This way, we could visit the remaining points of interest in the city more calmly and without rushing.

    Where to Stay in Manila

Makati is the financial and cultural epicenter of Manila, ideal for those seeking a dynamic experience with excellent restaurants, nightlife, and luxury shopping malls. If you’re looking for convenience and a central location, this is the perfect area to stay.

    • Budget: Z Hostel – A modern and welcoming hostel with a youthful and vibrant atmosphere. It offers shared and private rooms, as well as a rooftop bar with incredible views.
    • Mid-range: UNWND Boutique Hotel Makati – This boutique hotel offers modern and comfortable rooms, ideal for those looking for a tranquil space but close to Makati’s main attractions.
    • Luxury: Fairmont Makati – A luxury hotel located in the heart of Makati, with spacious rooms, a world-class spa, and easy access to the best shopping malls and restaurants in the city.
    Where to Eat in Manila

Manila combines vibrant gastronomy with unique spaces that reflect its cultural diversity. For dumpling lovers, Din Tai Fung in BGC is a must-visit, offering authentic Asian dishes in a modern setting. Meanwhile, Alamat Filipino Cuisine stands out for its cozy rooftop location, where you can enjoy cocktails and traditional Filipino dishes with an amazing city view.

If you’re looking for great coffee, Good Sh*t Coffee is the perfect spot for a relaxing break with an excellent selection of beverages and snacks.

The famous Jolibee, present all over the Philippines, offers a casual local experience with fried chicken and other Filipino dishes at affordable prices. Manila has something for every taste, from quick bites to refined dining experiences.

Day 4 and 5: Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa is famous for its natural park, home to the iconic Underground River, considered one of the New Natural Wonders of the World. Most travelers visit the city with this purpose, and we were no exception. Since it was Christmas, we decided to stay an extra day to enjoy the city at a slower pace.

To explore the Underground River, we joined a tour that included hotel pickup, boat transport, park entrance, lunch, and optional activities.

To reach Puerto Princesa, we took a taxi from the airport, though tricycles are also available. When it was time to head to El Nido, we opted for a private van as we were a group of five. There are also shared vans and buses available. The journey took about 6 hours and was comfortable enough for the trip.

Where to Stay in Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa offers options for all tastes and budgets. Here are our recommendations:

    • BudgetGreenspace Palawan – This is where we stayed! It offers simple but comfortable rooms, a peaceful garden, and a central location that makes it easy to explore the city.
    • Mid-rangeCanvas Boutique Hotel – A modern hotel with stylish design, a pool, and an on-site restaurant. It’s perfect for those who want comfort at a fair price.
    • LuxuryAstoria Palawan – A beachfront resort with a pool, spa, and leisure activities, perfect for those looking to relax in style in a tropical setting.
Where to Eat in Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa offers a diverse culinary scene that caters to all tastes. For coffee lovers, Gold • Cup Specialty Coffee Roaster’s is the ideal place, serving excellent coffee in a peaceful and cozy space. If you prefer an authentic local experience, Kinabuchs Grill and Bar is a great option, known for its delicious grilled dishes and relaxed atmosphere.

For hearty and delicious meals, Reef Café Puerto Princesa is a reliable choice. Artisans stands out for its cozy atmosphere and well-presented dishes, while the famous Kalui Seafood Restaurant is a must-visit for seafood lovers, offering fresh dishes and traditional décor that makes all the difference.

Day 6 to 9: El Nido

El Nido is the perfect starting point to explore some of the most stunning landscapes in the Philippines. The main attraction here is island hopping, and that’s exactly what we did for two days. On the first day, we chose the famous Tour A, which includes crystal-clear lagoons and dream beaches. On the second day, we opted for Tour D, a less popular but equally fascinating option, with more peaceful stops and fewer crowds. It’s important to book in advance; we made a reservation the day before, but there were no spots left due to the large number of visitors in El Nido. We also saw other people in the same situation as us.

On our extra day, we decided to relax on the beaches. We visited Las Cabañas Beach and Vanilla Beach El Nido, located in the same area, perfect for watching the sunset or taking a dip. When it was time to head to Coron, we caught the ferry at noon. The crossing took about 4 hours and was a peaceful way to continue exploring Palawan’s wonders.

Where to Stay in El Nido

El Nido offers incredible options for all budgets, from cozy guesthouses to luxury resorts. Here are our suggestions:

    • BudgetSouth Anchorage Inn – This is where we stayed! A simple and comfortable place with well-equipped rooms and a great location in the city center, perfect for those who want to explore El Nido without spending much.
    • Mid-rangeSpin Designer Hostel – A popular choice with a modern design, dormitories and private rooms, plus a great atmosphere to socialize with other travelers.
    • LuxuryEl Nido Resorts – Pangulasian Island – An exclusive resort on a private island, with luxury villas, a pristine beach, and impeccable service. Ideal for an unforgettable experience in El Nido.
Where to Eat in El Nido

El Nido is not only famous for its paradise landscapes but also for the variety of dining options it offers. To start your day or take a break, Grounded 100% Arabica Coffee, El Nido Branch is the ideal choice, with quality coffee and delicious doughnuts. If you’re craving Thai flavors, Big Bad Thai Restaurant offers incredible food in a cozy atmosphere.

For seafood lovers, Barakuda Seafood Restaurant is a must-visit. An elegant place with fresh, well-prepared dishes that won us over. If you prefer Japanese cuisine, Osaka Castle El Nido is an excellent option, offering authentic dishes that make you feel like you’re in Japan. Finally, Trattoria Altrove serves delicious Italian food with a sea view, perfect for a relaxed dinner.

Week 2: From Coron to Manila

    Days 10 to 13: Coron

Just like El Nido, Coron is a city that mainly serves as a starting point for exploring the nearby islands and lagoons through the famous island hopping tours. For anyone visiting Palawan as part of their Philippines itinerary, Coron is a must. We opted for two private custom tours, and it was definitely worth it. Since there were five of us, it worked out well in terms of price and the experience, which was much more personalized and relaxed.

We would start our day at the market, choosing ingredients for lunch, which the boat crew would later cook. After renting kayaks and snorkel masks, we would embark and decide on the itinerary together, based on what we wanted to see and do.

We enjoyed the experience and the landscapes so much that we couldn’t resist repeating it with different stops. It’s important to keep in mind that, in addition to the tour price, there are extra costs such as renting equipment, buying ingredients for lunch, and paying entrance fees for the beaches, islands, or lagoons you visit.

    Where to Stay in Coron

The best area to stay in Coron is the city, where you have easy access to restaurants, markets, and ports for boat tours. However, it’s important to remember that getting around the island requires tricycles or motorcycles. There are also resorts on private islands or more remote locations, but this time, we focused on options in the city and surrounding areas.

    • Budget: Nomad Yurts – A unique experience in spacious and comfortable yurts surrounded by nature. Located near the center of Coron, it’s perfect for those looking for a different and cozy accommodation without spending much.
    • Mid-range: Two Seasons Coron Bayside Hotel – A hotel with elegant rooms and an infinity pool with stunning views of the bay. Close to the center, it’s ideal for those seeking comfort and a good restaurant on-site.
    • Luxury: Club Paradise Palawan – Located on a private island, this resort offers elegant villas, white sand beaches, and top-notch snorkeling. It’s perfect for those seeking an exclusive and luxurious experience.
    Where to Eat in Coron

Coron offers a variety of dining options that combine amazing landscapes with unique experiences. From rooftops perfect for watching the sunset, like Hop Hostel Rooftop and Lutgardo’s Restaurant, to authentic local flavors like the roasted chicken from Andok’s, there is something for everyone.

If you prefer Thai dishes, Om’s Thai is an excellent choice, while cafés like Coffee Kong, tucked away on a side street, and Epic Cafe Coron, right in the center, are perfect for a coffee break with quality coffee.

    Day 14: Return to Manila

On our last full day in Manila during our Philippines itinerary, we decided to dive into the cultural side of the city. We started with Rizal Park, an iconic space full of history. Then, we explored three of the city’s main museums: the National Museum of Natural History, with fascinating exhibits on the biodiversity of the Philippines; the National Museum of Anthropology, which reveals the country’s rich cultural heritage; and the National Museum of Fine Arts, where we discovered impressive works of art.

To finish the day, we also stopped by Ayala Center, a modern and vibrant complex, perfect for relaxing, shopping, or enjoying a good meal before saying goodbye to the city.

    Where to Stay in Manila

We already shared our accommodation suggestions in Manila at the start of this post, and we ended up staying again at Z Hostel. The location in Makati, the laid-back atmosphere, and the incredible rooftop continue to make this hostel a top choice.

    Where to Eat in Manila

On this second visit to Manila, we tried Alma Makati, a restaurant that surprised us with the quality of its dishes and the cozy atmosphere. We highly recommend it for a memorable dining experience inspired by the flavors of Valencia. We also had lunch at Hard Rock Café Makati, a classic that needs no introduction, with several locations throughout the city, perfect for those looking for a relaxed meal with music and great energy.

Week 3: San Benito, Bohol, and Cebu

Day 15 and 16: Relaxing at San Benito

In 2025, wellness destinations are leading the travel trends, and we couldn’t resist exploring one of the best in the world: The Farm at San Benito, in the Philippines. For two days, we immersed ourselves in a transformative experience that combined luxury, health, and relaxation in our Philippines itinerary.

Here, you will learn about our time at The Farm, divided into three main moments: the holistic experience, the space and accommodation, and conscious eating.

    A Holistic Experience

At The Farm at San Benito, well-being goes far beyond massages and yoga. This is a sanctuary where every detail is designed to help you heal and revitalize your body, mind, and spirit. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a medical team and therapists who created a personalized plan for our goals: to relax and detoxify.

The therapies integrate holistic medical methods and traditional techniques. We experienced treatments at the award-winning Spa and hydrotherapy sessions that left us completely renewed. But what stood out the most was the attention and care with which each treatment is planned and executed. Everything at The Farm is designed to help your body regain balance.

Space and Accommodation – A Retreat in Nature

Imagine a place with 52 hectares of lush nature, meditation spots, and trails where all you hear is the sound of birds. That’s The Farm. Here, the stress of everyday life disappears with the fresh air and breathtaking views of the Malarayat mountains.

We stayed in one of the more than 60 available villas, and ours had 200m² of pure comfort. Between the private pool and the balcony with a view of the forest, it was hard to leave this sanctuary. But the common pools – including one with a waterfall – also deserve a mention. It’s the perfect setting to relax or share moments together.

Every corner of The Farm is in harmony with nature, inviting you to stop and simply be present. A unique feeling.

    Conscious Dining

At The Farm at San Benito, food is more than just nutrition: it’s part of the healing process. Every meal is a celebration of well-being, made with organic and local ingredients. The menus are designed to detoxify, balance, and revitalize.

The The Farm at San Benito has several restaurants. We tried vibrant vegan dishes at ALIVE!, the main restaurant, and delighted in Mediterranean flavors at The Upper Deck. The culinary diversity also includes PRANA, inspired by Ayurvedic cuisine, and Souffle de Vie, offering French vegetarian dishes. If you prefer fish, PESCE offers a pescatarian menu focused on longevity. Every meal is a reminder that eating healthy is not just necessary, it’s delicious.

The Perfect Choice for Wellness and Luxury

Rejuvenated in body and soul, we left The Farm at San Benito ready to continue our itinerary in the Philippines toward Bohol. If you’re looking for a place to disconnect from the world, reconnect with balance, and enjoy conscious luxury, this is the right destination. In the end, it’s more than just a trip – it’s a transformation.

Day 17 to 20: Exploring Bohol

If you’re considering exploring Bohol in your Philippine itinerary, there are two reasons that will convince you: the stunning Chocolate Hills and the paradisiacal beaches of Panglao. We stayed at the famous Alona Beach and loved the atmosphere. The beach has a vibrant energy, with white sand, crystal-clear water, and a unique cultural touch, thanks to the strong South Korean influence felt in the restaurants and the number of visitors from that country. It was a mix that surprised us and made the experience even more interesting.

Alona Beach - Panglao - Bohol - Philippines

Usually, visitors to the Chocolate Hills opt for what the locals call the countryside tour, which also includes a stop at the Loboc River and the tarsier sanctuary. But the truth is? We didn’t feel compelled to take this tour. The beach was so enjoyable that we preferred to soak up the sun and sea.

If you prefer adventure in your Philippine itinerary, Bohol offers activities like island hopping, including diving and snorkeling in incredible waters. Some even swim with whale sharks, but lately, we’ve been questioning the ethics of some animal experiences and chose not to participate.

After a few great days in Bohol, we took the ferry to Cebu, ready for the next adventure. Bohol is undoubtedly a must-visit place on any itinerary in the Philippines.

    Where to Stay in Bohol

Bohol offers accommodations for all styles and budgets, from affordable options to luxury beachfront hotels. Bohol is a large island, and we chose to stay in Panglao at Alona Beach. Here are our suggestions to help you decide where to stay:

    • Budget: Renate’s Homestay – If you’re looking for a comfortable and affordable stay, Renate’s Homestay is an excellent choice. Located in a peaceful area, it offers simple, clean, and cozy rooms, perfect for those wanting to explore Bohol without spending much. The family-friendly atmosphere makes you feel at home, and the owners are always ready to help with local tips. Being a bit further from the beach makes it more affordable, as the closer you get to the beach, the more expensive the accommodations become.
    • Mid-Range: Alona Vida Beach Resort – For those seeking something more sophisticated but still affordable, Alona Vida Beach Resort in Panglao is ideal. Located right by the famous Alona Beach, it offers comfortable rooms, a lovely pool, and direct beach access. It’s perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the Chocolate Hills or snorkeling around nearby islands.
    • Luxury: The Bellevue Resort – If your goal is beachfront luxury, The Bellevue Resort in Panglao is the right choice. This 5-star resort offers spacious rooms with stunning views, a breathtaking infinity pool, and direct access to a private beach. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the best that Bohol has to offer with a touch of exclusivity.
    Where to Eat in Bohol

If you’re planning a trip to Bohol, you’ll need great places to refuel after exploring paradise beaches and the famous Chocolate Hills. To start your day, Comoda offers a delicious avocado toast, perfect for a light and flavorful breakfast. For great third wave coffee, Atypika Coffee, a coffee shop set up in a tricycle, won us over with the best coffee we’ve tried in Alona Beach. If you prefer a simple yet delicious meal, K-Chicken serves crispy fried chicken in the South Korean style, perfect for a laid-back lunch.

For dinner, moCoo stands out with an atmosphere inspired by the Middle East and fusion cuisine worth trying. A bit further from Alona Beach, Kamaya Restaurant & Café is perfect for those seeking a delicious meal in a more peaceful setting. If the goal is to have lunch with an incredible view of the sea, Oasis Restaurant & Beach Club won’t disappoint, with fresh dishes served right by the beach. And to end the day on a special note, Bougainvillea Spanish Restaurant and Wine Bar offers tapas in the Spanish style and a wine selection that makes the experience unforgettable.

Day 21 and 22: Closing in Cebu

We added Cebu to our itinerary because it was a convenient way to head to Australia, being so close to Bohol. Plus, we still had that desire to try the famous lechon from Cebu, which everyone raves about. The truth is, we only spent one full day in the city, as our flight to the next destination was early the next morning.

After 7 months on the road, our clothes were really starting to show signs of wear (no, it’s not just an excuse to buy new things, we promise!). So we took advantage of a strategic stop at Ayala Center in Cebu to refresh a few pieces.

If you’re planning a visit to Cebu on your Philippines itinerary, here are some of the top attractions worth exploring:

    • Basilica del Santo Niño: One of the most iconic places in the city, this historic church is a must-see, especially if you’re interested in the cultural and religious heritage of the Philippines.
    • Magellan’s Cross: Close to the basilica, this historic cross marks Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. It’s an important symbol of the country’s history.
    • Temple of Leah: Often compared to the Taj Mahal as a tribute to love, this temple offers an amazing view of the city.
    • Sirao Flower Garden: Known as the “Little Amsterdam,” this charming garden is perfect for photos with vibrant flowers and breathtaking landscapes.
    • Sugbo Market: If you’re a food lover, this night market is the ideal place to try the famous lechon and other local specialties.
    • Kawasan Falls (outside the city): If you have time to venture a bit further, these waterfalls in Badian are unmissable, especially for nature and adventure lovers.

Although our time in Cebu was short, it was enough to realize that this city has much more to offer for those who have the time to explore it at a relaxed pace.

    Where to stay in Cebu

Choosing where to stay in Cebu is essential for making the most of your experience. After our research, we’ve put together the best accommodation options for all travel styles. From beachfront comfort to strategic city locations, here are our recommendations.

    • Budget: Red Planet CebuRed Planet Cebu is perfect for those looking for a practical and affordable stay. Located in the heart of the city, it offers compact, modern, and well-equipped rooms, ideal for resting after exploring Cebu’s attractions.
    • Mid-range: Goldberry Suites & Hotel Cebu – We stayed at Goldberry Suites & Hotel Cebu, and it was a great choice for a comfortable stay at an affordable price. The rooms are spacious, with modern decor, and the service is excellent. The central location makes it easy to access the main attractions in the city.
    • Luxury: Radisson Blu CebuRadisson Blu Cebu is a luxury landmark in the city. With elegant rooms, an outdoor pool, and multiple restaurants, it’s perfect for those who want to relax in style after exploring Cebu. The location near SM City Cebu is an extra advantage for shopping and entertainment.
    Where to eat in Cebu

In Cebu, we had some incredible gastronomic experiences worth sharing. Rico’s Lechon was one of our must-stop places, you can’t have a Philippines itinerary without this delicacy – the roasted pig, a typical Filipino dish, is simply divine, and in Cebu, it has an even more special flavor.

To sweeten the day, we stopped by J.CO Donuts, where the coffee comes with a free glazed donut (and the filled options are irresistible). At Ayala Terraces, we found a food court with plenty of international options to satisfy every palate. Cebu is truly a destination that wins over with its food!

Tips for Traveling and for Your Philippines Itinerary

    • Use Grab for transportation: Whenever possible, use the Grab app. It’s practical, safe, and a great option for getting around cities like Manila or Cebu, ideal for completing any itinerary in the Philippines.
    • Travel insurance with Heymondo: Don’t risk traveling without insurance. We use Heymondo and feel it’s an essential protection for any adventure, especially for an itinerary in the Philippines.
    • Weather forecast in the Philippines: The weather apps we always use don’t always get it right in tropical countries. According to the forecasts, it seemed like our whole Philippines itinerary would be under rain. But the truth? We had some incredible sunny days! The weather here is unpredictable and can change in an instant, so it’s best to be prepared for anything: sun, rain, or both in the same day.
    • Food safety: Many travelers report cases of food poisoning in the Philippines. Avoid street food from unreliable places and always use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth. These precautions are essential to ensure your itinerary in the Philippines isn’t interrupted by health issues.
    • Personal safety: We felt safe in most places, but avoid deserted areas or unrecommended spots, especially in Manila. Watch out for children begging and trying to steal discreetly (a situation that happened to us). Follow basic safety tips: don’t display valuables, and always keep your bags and backpacks well secured. These precautions are crucial for feeling comfortable during any itinerary in the Philippines.
    • Unlimited mobile data with Holafly: Get unlimited internet with a Holafly SIM card to stay connected without worries during your itinerary in the Philippines.
    • Take advantage of the locals’ friendliness: Filipinos are super friendly and speak great English. Don’t hesitate to ask for tips or advice—you’ll feel warmly welcomed and enhance your Philippines itinerary.
    • Must-try massages: Just like in Thailand, the Philippines is a paradise for massages. The typical Filipino massage combines various techniques and is perfect for relaxing after days of exploring your itinerary in the Philippines.
    • Payments and money: Most businesses accept cash or GCash only. ATMs charge a fee of 250 pesos per withdrawal (maximum of 10,000 pesos). Plan ahead to avoid surprises and ensure your itinerary in the Philippines goes smoothly without financial hiccups.

With this itinerary in the Philippines, you’ll experience a well-rounded mix of culture, adventure, and relaxation. From vibrant cities to breathtaking beaches and islands, this trip promises unforgettable memories.
