During our travels through Bangkok in Thailand, we decided to spend a night in the famous Khao San area before heading to Koh Chang. This choice was purely strategic: it was more convenient to catch the morning transport without having to cross the city from Silom at dawn. If you want to know what to do in Khao San, you’re in the right place.

Although Khao San is vibrant and full of life, in our opinion, it’s not the best base for exploring Bangkok. The main reason is the lack of quick access to the MTR and BTS, the city’s most efficient public transport systems.

Still, there are advantages that make this area popular:

• It’s a strategic point for travelers heading to the islands, with accessible and centralized transport options.
• Budget accommodations attract backpackers from all over the world.
• It’s located near the Chao Phraya River, offering an alternative and picturesque way to explore Bangkok via public boats.

If your goal is to explore the city practically, Khao San might not be the best choice. But for short stays or as a starting point for other adventures, it makes perfect sense.
