Looking for where to stay in Koh Samet? You’ve come to the right place. When we returned to Thailand on our second trip around the world, we wanted to explore a different destination—a place with paradise-like beaches but without the mass tourism of islands like Phuket or Koh Samui. That’s how Koh Samet made it onto our itinerary.
Just three hours from Bangkok, Koh Samet is one of the most accessible islands in the country, perfect for a hassle-free getaway. Besides its easy access, it has a drier climate than other Thai islands, white sandy beaches, and a laid-back atmosphere where nature still takes center stage. If you’re planning a visit, this guide will help you choose the best area and accommodation for your stay.

How to Get to Koh Samet
The best way to reach Koh Samet is by boat from Ban Phe Pier, about 200 km from Bangkok. The simplest option? Booking a combined bus or minivan + ferry trip. Several companies offer this service, so choose the one with the most convenient meeting point for you (check here).

That’s exactly what we did: we arrived at Ban Phe Pier and took the ferry from Nuanthip Pier, which took us to Nadan Pier in Koh Samet in about 30 minutes. With the combined trip, we didn’t have to worry about tickets or schedules – we just boarded and relaxed.
Once on the island, our accommodation was near the port, so we walked. But if needed, you can take a songthaew to your hotel.
Other options? You can also reach Ban Phe Pier by private transfer (check here) or by Grab, then buy your ferry ticket on-site.
