How to Get to Lake Atitlán
Getting to Lake Atitlán is relatively easy, especially if you opt for land transportation. We chose a van from Antigua, which dropped us off directly in San Marcos La Laguna. We returned via van as well, this time to Guatemala City. We had a small hiccup that required us to take a TukTuk to San Pablo to catch the van, but the shuttle company handled everything.
The trip took about 4 hours each way, though the time may vary depending on traffic and whether you’re among the first or last to be picked up. The two most popular areas to stay at Lake Atitlán are San Pedro La Laguna and San Marcos La Laguna. San Pedro is known for being a lively destination, especially among backpackers, with a vibrant nightlife. San Marcos, on the other hand, is perfect for those seeking a more tranquil and relaxed atmosphere, famous for its community dedicated to holistic practices, vegetarian restaurants, and a unique vibe.
