What happened when we were travelling around the world in 2020?

After the transformative events of 2020, many of us experienced unexpected changes in our lives. For us, it meant cutting short our incredible journey travelling around the world in March and returning to our home country, Portugal, just as countries began implementing their first lockdowns.

Our initial round-the-world adventure took us through Africa, Asia, Oceania, and South America, creating unforgettable memories. However, the decision to end our journey prematurely left us with a sense of unfinished business. Despite being initially reactive, the emotions that surfaced ignited the idea of embarking on another extensive journey, even before the outbreak. The desire to explore, connect with diverse cultures, savour various cuisines, and enjoy quality time together has evolved into an undeniable passion.

What about now?

As we contemplated the possibility of travelling around the world again, the decision lingered until 2023. In the enchanting city of Nara, Japan, we sealed our commitment with our engagement, marking an amazing moment that became the catalyst for a new adventure—a one-year honeymoon on a journey travelling around the world, an extended “season 2” of our initial trip.

Our approach to this upcoming adventure is not rooted in bringing closure to our past journey; instead, we envision it as an ongoing narrative—a seamless continuation that extends the threads of exploration into uncharted territories and forges even deeper connections with the world around us. It’s not about reaching a final destination but embracing the ever-evolving nature of our global exploration.

What is our plan?

Come June 2024, our second global escapade will kick off in the vast landscapes of Canada, and from there, it will unfold southward, weaving through a tapestry of diverse cultures, landscapes, and experiences. The decision to start our journey in Canada holds special significance; it symbolizes the idea of starting afresh, like turning the first page of a new chapter in our global travel story.

Embarking on a global journey was once an elusive dream, but now, it’s a tangible reality eagerly anticipated. Opting against circumnavigating the globe, an RTW ticket makes less sense; we prioritize freedom and flexibility, preferring to plan as we go and travel in a relaxed manner.
